My name is Anna Lind Thomas and if this was your living room, we’d be chatting and I’d be asking you for a cup of coffee.  Since I’m on your computer, I’ll just make some in my kitchen.

I created The Hookup Column.  You may be wondering why.

As a professional, I lived and worked in a residence hall filled with college freshman.  I earned a Masters degree and wrote my thesis on hookup culture.  I experienced a thing or two.  I’ve studied a thing or two.  Now I’d like to share it with you.

I am a Christian woman passionate about my faith, who also understands that everyone comes to the table with a different set of values and perspectives when it comes to sex.  Despite our differences, many of us can still relate to the complexities of trying to manage society’s sexual expectations of us.  And, like me, a lot of us have been burned.

Talking about sex in any context is controversial.  I find my conservative Christian followers often wish my column talked more specifically about upholding conservative sexual values.  My more liberal followers wish I wasn’t talking about values at all.  I’m not in the business of converting or denying what I consider truth.  Since I can’t please everyone,  I won’t try.  I’ve decided, instead, to keep it real.  That’s right, I said it.  I’m keeping it real my friends …

All of my topics are based on either my own years of research, or my own experiences working with college students.  As shocking, startling, or tame and boring as it may seem to you – it’s real life.

Keep an open mind.  After all, only open minds can ever be open enough to learning something new.
